Alex joined his organisation on an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration (Level 2) having just completed a two year IT course at college. In view of these skills, Alex commenced work in the IT dept, manning the helpdesk. The role involved logging problems on the database, speaking to customers over the phone, fixing hardware and software issues etc.
This was Alex’s first role and he was initially apprehensive, quiet, slow to engage with colleagues and customers and generally inexperienced in the working environment.
However, with constant support from his manager Matt, Paul his assessor and all of his work colleagues, Alex began to ‘find his feet’ and improve greatly in the ensuing months.
A year later Alex has grown into the role with aplomb, he is an effective and well-liked member of the team, builds good relationships with customers and also trains others on aspects of the job.
Alex is a shining example of success in the Apprenticeship scheme and has also picked up NVQ and Functional Skills qualifications on the way. Excellent!!!
Here’s what Alex’s manager, Matt Reeve, said about the Apprenticeship with The Gold Standard:
For me experiences like this are what the Apprenticeship scheme was made for. To take a shy, nervous person who lacks confidence and help them grow, helping them with their weaknesses and discovering their strengths. Alex has changed massively during his Apprenticeship and is now an brilliant member of the team, and continues to improve.Matt Reeve, Alex’s manager at Tewkesbury Borough Council
